Which Micro scooter is suitable for my child?

When choosing a scooter, age plays a significant role. Therefore, we have categorized the scooters by age group. You can opt for a three-wheeled scooter, such as the Mini and Maxi Micro, which provides a unique surfing sensation as you steer by shifting your weight. Alternatively, you can choose a two-wheeled scooter - after all, Micro is the inventor of these compact foldable scooters!

Below, we provide an overview of the different models, making it easy for you to select the right one.

Scooter Advice for Toddlers Aged 1+

The Mini Micro scooter is designed to develop balance, coordination, and motor skills. Thanks to a seat, this scooter can be used from 1 year old and grows with your child up to the age of 6. There are a few options:
  • Micro Mini2Grow Deluxe Magic LED Scooter: is a 4-in-1 scooter, suitable for children from 12 months to 6 years (up to 50 kg). The scooter starts with an ergonomic seat (max. 20 kg), two options for footrests, and a push handle that can be adjusted both horizontally and vertically. At 18 months, the scooter transforms into a three-wheeler by removing the push handle and footrests. From the age of 2, the seat can be removed, and the scooter becomes a model with a fixed low handlebar. When your child is big enough, the push handle turns into a steering bar, transforming the scooter into a Mini Micro Deluxe. This scooter features shock-absorbing plastic grips with Magic LED lights that illuminate in 5 colours upon contact (batteries required).
  • Mini Micro 3in1 Deluxe Push: is suitable from 12 months and starts with an ergonomic seat (max. 20 kg) that can be adjusted to two heights. In the lowest position, it is suitable from 12 months, and the higher position from 18 months. Once the footrests are removed, the scooter becomes a three-wheeler. From the age of 2, your child can scoot independently on the Mini Micro Deluxe scooter without the seat.
  • Mini Micro 3in1 Deluxe Push LED: featuring LED wheels for better visibility in low light conditions.
TIP: Do you want a Mini Micro 3in1 Deluxe Push in a different colour? Then purchase the Mini Deluxe in the desired colour with a separate 3in1 Push set.

Scooter Advice for Children Aged 2-6 Years

The Mini Micro scooter is the world’s most popular three-wheeled scooter for children and is suitable for kids aged 2 to 6 years. It is available in two models: the Mini Micro Classic and the Mini Micro Deluxe. The Deluxe version comes in various editions, which we will explain below.

Mini Micro Deluxe
Our best-selling model for children aged 2 to 6 years. This model features a continuously adjustable handlebar, reflectors at the rear wheel, and silicone grip letters on the deck. The handlebar of the Mini is anodised to prevent scratches and can be detached within 2 seconds: easy for an adult to do (but not for a child), making the scooter very compact for travel or for placing under a pushchair. Available with and without LED wheels, although experience shows that children prefer LED wheels. Tested up to 50 kg.

Mini Micro Classic
A more affordable alternative, with the main difference being a fixed handlebar at the same height as the highest position of the Mini Deluxe. As a result, this model is suitable for children aged 3 to 6 years. The deck is lightweight but does not have silicone grip letters. The handlebar is removable with a single click. Tested up to 50 kg.

Variations of the Mini Micro Deluxe:
  • LED: Most models come with LED wheels in the front wheels that light up with movement, requiring no batteries. Some scooters feature LED Moon wheels, with an extra row of lights in the wheel. Scooters with LED wheels can be identified by the LED logo in the photo.
  • Foldable: Easy to transport in public transport and straightforward to store. This model is slightly heavier and less compact than the Mini Deluxe with a removable handlebar.
  • ECO: Made from recycled fishing nets that are collected directly from fishermen to reduce waste. The deck and brake are made from this material.
  • Glow Plus: An exceptional edition featuring a transparent deck and built-in LED strips that light up while scooting. Additionally, the deck, handles, brake, and logo have a glow-in-the-dark finish that charges with sunlight or UV light.
  • Glitter: Decorated with a unique glitter finish on the deck, brake, and even on the LED Moon wheels.
  • Flux Neochrome: Features a transparent deck and a handlebar with a striking Neochrome finish, providing a high-tech and exclusive appearance.

My Child is 4 Years Old, Mini or Maxi Micro?

From 110 cm and a minimum of 18 kg, your child can operate the Maxi Micro (weight is the key factor). Generally, children around the age of 4 prefer a lighter scooter because it is easier to handle, as steering is done by shifting weight, which encourages children to take the scooter more often for longer rides. The handlebar of the Mini Micro is at the highest setting the same height as the handlebar of the Maxi Micro at the lowest setting.

Tip: Does your child have a younger sibling who will also want to scoot later? Then choose the Mini Micro so that the scooter lasts longer.

Scooter Advice for Children Aged 5+

For children in this age group, there are two options: a scooter with 2 or 3 wheels. A 2-wheeled scooter steers like a bike and can be used from about 5 years old. This scooter requires more balance and control, but also offers speed and agility. A 3-wheeled scooter, the Maxi Micro, is the larger sibling of the Mini Maxi, and you also steer by shifting your weight, providing a surfing sensation that children really enjoy. They are very comfortable on stone pavements due to their flexible plastic deck.

The Maxi Micro is by far the most popular scooter for children aged 5-12 years. If your child has a strong preference for a 2-wheeled scooter, we always recommend trying a similar scooter first to see how your child feels about it. If you have no preference, we highly recommend the Maxi.

Scooters with 3 Wheels:

Maxi Micro Deluxe: our top choice for a child aged 5-12 years is always the 3-wheeled Maxi Micro scooter, as it is the easiest for children to handle, thus they will use it the most. The handlebar of the Maxi is anodised to prevent scratches and can be detached within 2 seconds: easy for an adult to do (but not for a child), allowing for simple storage or transport when travelling. Available with and without LED wheels, although experience shows that children prefer LED wheels. Tested up to 70 kg.

Maxi Micro Deluxe Pro: what distinguishes this model are the fat wheels and the wider chopper handlebar. Due to the thicker wheels, the scooter is suitable for rougher terrain. The lowest position of the handlebar is higher than that of the standard Maxi, so we recommend this from 6 years old.

Maxi Micro Classic: A more affordable option without the silicone grip letters and the anodised handlebar column.

Variations of the Maxi Micro Deluxe:
  • LED: Most models feature LED wheels in the front, which light up with movement without the need for batteries. Scooters with LED wheels can be identified by the LED logo in the photo.
  • Foldable: Easy to carry on public transport and straightforward to store. This model is slightly heavier and less compact than the Maxi Deluxe with a removable handlebar.
  • ECO: Made from recycled fishing nets collected directly from fishermen to reduce waste. The deck and brake are made from this material.
  • Glow Plus: A special edition featuring a transparent deck and built-in LED strips that light up during scooting. Additionally, the deck, handles, brake, and logo have a glow-in-the-dark finish that charges with sunlight or UV light.
  • Flux Neochrome: Features a transparent deck and a handlebar with a striking Neochrome finish, providing a high-tech and exclusive appearance.

Scooters with 2 Wheels:

Micro is the inventor of the compact, foldable scooter as we know it today. Before choosing a model, it is essential to determine whether the scooter will be used as a means of transport or for performing tricks. Stunt scooters need to be more shock-resistant and meet different requirements. Further down this page, we will explain these scooters separately.

All our standard two-wheeled scooters are foldable, come with a convenient stand, feature a continuously adjustable handlebar, and are tested up to 100 kg. The main difference between the models lies in the wheel diameter. A simple guideline: larger wheels provide more riding comfort, whereas smaller wheels make the scooter more compact and lighter.

  • Micro Sprite – Bestseller and all-rounder – wheel diameter: 120 mm age 5+ years

The ultimate all-round scooter: lightweight, durable and designed for years of use. The handles can be folded in, making the scooter extra compact and easy to transport or store. Available with and without LED wheels (identified by the LED logo). The Sprite comes in a wide range of colours and variants, including

    • ECO – More sustainably produced, with plastic parts and wheels made from recycled fishing nets collected directly from fishermen.
    • Neochrome – Our most popular Sprite, featuring a special neochrome coating that creates a unique colour-changing effect depending on the light.
  • Micro Sprite Deluxe – With a wider handlebar and built-in LED light – wheel diameter: 120 mm – age 8+ years

The same base as the Sprite, but with a wider chopper handlebar and a built-in LED light in the handlebar stem (2 x AAA batteries). Due to the higher handlebar, this scooter is suitable from 8 years old.

  • Micro Cruiser – Extra riding comfort with large wheels – wheel diameter: 200 mm – age 5-10 years

For children who want a scooter with larger wheels for extra comfort. Due to its larger size, wider handles, and heavier weight, it is less compact than the Sprite, but ideal for longer rides. Equipped with LED wheels.

  • Micro Speed – Balance between speed and compactness – wheel diameter: 145 mm – age 10+ years

Equipped with shock-absorbing wheels, large enough for speed but still compact and manoeuvrable. The slightly sturdier construction also makes this scooter a bit heavier. The handles can be folded, making it easy to carry or store, ideal for hop-on, hop-off rides.

  • Micro Speed Deluxe – More comfort with larger wheels and a wide handlebar – wheel diameter: 180 mm – age 12+ years

The Deluxe version of the Micro Speed features larger wheels and a wide chopper handlebar for extra comfort. The handles are not foldable, making the scooter less compact when folded. The larger wheels allow for a smoother and more comfortable ride.

  • Micro Rocket – Stable on any terrain but with greater rolling resistance – wheel diameter: 120 mm – age 10+ years

Notable for its wide fat wheels, providing extra stability and grip on rough surfaces. Due to the larger rolling resistance, you need to push a bit harder to gain speed. Equipped with an extra wide footplate.

What is the best choice?

For younger children (5-10 years): Micro Sprite or Micro Cruiser
For compact, fast rides (10+ years): Micro Speed
For extra comfort and stability (12+ years): Micro Speed Deluxe or Micro Rocket

Stunt Scooters:

If your child spends a lot of time in the skate park, a stunt scooter is the best option. Stunt scooters are specifically designed (together with a professional stunt team) for performing stunts and tricks. They are extra sturdy and made to withstand hard impacts and shocks.

Unlike regular scooters, stunt scooters are not foldable and have a fixed handlebar without height adjustment, ensuring maximum stability and durability.

This makes stunt scooters less comfortable for street use and less handy to take on trips. However, with a stunt scooter, your child can safely perform a variety of tricks and jumps.

  • Micro Ramp (8-14 years): specifically designed for young riders who are starting with stunts and tricks. It features a lower and narrower handlebar than adult stunt scooters, but is larger and wider than the Trixx, which enhances manoeuvrability and control. The construction focuses on user-friendliness and durability, which is important for beginners. The design is practical and tailored to the needs of young users, providing a sturdy entry model with metal core wheels. Pegs are not available for this model.
  • Micro MX Trixx 2.0 (5-12 years): a true stunt scooter with many advanced features you wouldn’t expect in a stunt scooter at this price range, such as: 5 Star Metal Core PU wheels (100mm with ABEC 7 bearings), Triple Bolt Clamp, advanced HIC compression system, and extra strong metal core wheels. The scooter comes with pegs for practising grind tricks.
